We held a Facebook contest from that ran from July 1 to Aug 1. We eventually picked two winners – and lucky winner Joy Li Ang was the first of them to come down for her hair makeover, worth up to  S$600!

Joy came in with waist-length hair that she’s understandably very protective of, and we assured her that she’s in very good hands with stylist Reno Tan, last year’s finalist at the Goldwell ColorZoom competition.

Joy, before the makeover!

Reno decided to reduce the length of her hair, as he thought her hair gets slightly frizzy and dry at the ends. With Joy’s oval-shaped face, he reckoned that she would be even be able to carry off chin length hair. But because Joy wanted to maintain a longer length (“When was the last time you had short hair?” – “Primary school!”), he decided to keep her hair mid-chest length, snipping off her ends instead.

And the digital perm process began…

TIP: Digital perm is great for Singapore’s humid weather, as the curls do not become frizzy and are easier to manage, unlike traditional perming processes.

After the perm, Reno applied ash brown as her base color, and turquoise to her ends – with her original hair color being a lighter shade of brown, the end result is the deep rich green that you see; a unique shade that complements her fair skin.

From start to finish, the whole process took about 4 hours to cut, perm, and color.

After the makeover: Joy with her stylist Reno

Joy’s hair now has a healthy shine to it thanks to the turquoise. And with proper maintenance – i.e. using shampoo for colored hair and treatment, her hair can keep its lustrous tone for up to 2 months before needing a touch-up. Joy loves her new look – and we think it really looks great on her! Hope you guys love it too!
